Default sunl 70 no power

Today I got my xl 70 and put it together! Changed the oil, let it idle for about 30 minutes and it seemed to idle just fine. Let my 6 year old kid get on it to ride around and the thing just bogs down. I have no power! It's almost like the breaks are on all of the time! I adjusted the carb a little bit but it still has no power!! I did notice as i was adjusting the carb that when it is at idle and i open the throttle up it tends to kill the engine!! Any ideas what could be wrong?? Thanks

Just reaching here - there is a throttle adjustment screw. At normal operation the screw should be out almost an inch. At restricted settings - the screw is out 1/8 to 1/4 inch. This is the screw on the top of the thumb throttle - facing towards the front of the machine.

If the screw is in most of the way - even at full throttle - you will get hardly anything out of the machine.
