Default trx450r and yfz450 potential

I am looking to buy a used quad and have found myself doing the all popular trx vs yfz comparison. I will be using it as and all around play toy, some trails, some track, some dunes, a lot of wheelies, harassing the neighbors...ect. I like to get the best bang for the buck and to also go as fast as possable. So the main question is where would my money be best spent? The first mods would be the regular things like; full exhaust, tires&wheels, nurfs, but then I would like to venture into extended arms and axle and then do cams and high comp. and stuff. From initial purchase to full completion where would my money be best spent? As far as I can tell the aftermarket and used parts selection seems to favor the yfz.

I really love the Honda for riding desert. That's desert cross-country riding which includes lots of trails, not just dunes! (Actually, I'm not big on dune riding at all.) I run Holeshot XC tires on ITP Baja rims (widens the quad +3" in back and +2" in front, without doing a-arms or an axle), DG Baja full chassis and swingarm skids, IMS/Roll Intimidator bumper, etc. The Honda dominates desert racing and it is a multi-time Baja winner, so that should say all you need to know right there!

I think of the Yamaha as more of a track/play bike, and not really a worthy cross-country mount.

If you're going to spend many thousands then I think the honda has an edge at the limit. If you're going to throw a few minor upgrades in it the yfz is the better choice.
