CARS: Mazda RX-7
#1
Ok for all of those who know anything about the RX-7, I have the opportunity to buy an 88' RX-7 for $600, has a 5 speed tranny, and the stock rotary engine with like 120,000 orig miles on it, it will need a little work to get it runing right (fuel system work) but anyways do yall think its worth it? For those who don't know the RX-7 was 1 hell of a car in it's day.

Some things to think about.
They are nice, fast and quick cars.
They don't get very good mileage. With a 5 speed somewhere around 20-22.
The apex seals are done already.........or almost done. They don't tend to last more than 100K..........some go sooner. If it sat for a long time that's not good. The seals go away. They like to be run every day. A lot of specialized tools to yank the engine down.
I raced one many years ago. It was like I was driving a pro stock car and he was driving a top fuel car. It was not even a race.

Yea well the engine will crank it just won't fire up, I think it's due to bad gas, it will need new tires too (the curent tires are dry rotted), the good news is it has all new vaccum hoses.

well for 600, its not bad, even if you find out its more work and money then you want to put into it, you could always parts it out on E-BAY, and get back more then what you payed.
My Cousin has one, i think 89? and it is a fast little car.
Good luck!

Had a RX2 (old guy). That thing would fly.
Decided I would use Kendall motor oil. It had an additive that help reduce carbon build up. Sounded good at the time. Then found out the motor had carbon tip seals. Learned an expensive lesson then, just should have stayed with Castrol.
Guy in our neighborhood had a Charger that would just fly. Wanted to race everyone. If you didn't know, you could take the trailing spark plug wires off the old rotary engine, and it still ran very well. Long story short, I told him I race him on one condition, he had to take off half of his plug wires.
For some reason, we never did race. (that and his Charger on all 8 would have left me three counties behind)

Well I picked it up this morning, actually talked the owner down to $500, it needs a new fuel pump (ordered) and I'm in the process of getting a new fuel tank.
