I have a modifited 06 yfz 450 and raced this guy whos got a very well built 250R well not actually a 250R ( it has a 350 motor built to the top) he said he had about 14,000 invested. We raced on flat sand and the straight stretch was about a half mile long. I started off in second ( so did he ) and my buddy who has an 06 450R, I had the holeshot on the two other quads and nobody was close to me when I topped out but then the 250R came flying past me at probably 90 mph cause Im sure I was doing 70mph probably 75mph and he flew past me. My friend on the 06 450R was a ways back and never a factor but to his credit its new and has no mods but the pea shooter removed. I had no problems losing cause there is always a faster quad or bike out there but I was proud of my yfz, It kicked *** until it reached its top speed, and I was very impressed with the 250R. He let me ride it and man that thing was fast, in 6th gear you get the feeling that "this thing goes too fast " !! oh by the way, it took him to about 1/4 mile to pass me, I was quite abit ahead before he started catching up. Anyways just a fun race thought I would give you guys the results !!1

 

Sounds like your buddy on the 350R needs to learn how to tune or how to ride. He should have smoked you from start to finish without a problem.

 

Never Think the old school quads are slow....Iv got a buddie that has a 250r and its pretty salty...And austinOneal (on the forums) has a 86 ATC yamaha tri-z 250 thats really salty...

I have to agree with that one.
I used to own a 330R and it was damn fast! A 350R should be even faster! Close to 50 RWHP or more I would think! [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-shocked.gif[/img]

 

lol my yfz is pushing near 50, his ran great, there was nothing wrong with his 350R or his riding. It WAS much faster, mine was just quicker

 

A good 350 will put out significantly more than 50 at the rears, but I suppose a cookie cutter backyard 350 could be low on power. Not to mention the R should be 30-50 pounds lighter.

 

Sounds like your geared much lower than him. Next time drop about 10 -20 % of the teeth on your rear sprocket and then race him.

He's probably geared for alot of top end and is giving up alot on the bottom to do it.

 

Quick question what does "Salty" mean. I was pretty sure "salty" meant upset, pissed, unhappy.
