I have a yamaha 225dx and was wondering what would make a good trail manchine. It dont
need to be fast but 4x4. I was thinking about a quadrunner 250 or king quad 300?

I would look into the eiger. It is 376cc a little bigger than what you wanted but is a great machine. You can pick up a new one for around 5k and get a used one much cheaper. I like it because it has the H/L option, selectable 4X4 and the manual or auto tranny option. I have the manual but I like to shift, dont want to become a "belt smoker". Hope this helps.

Number of good machines out there. You may want to think a little bigger in the engine size as you are really limiting you search.

We are well satisfied with the Kawasaki Prairie 360. Have used it for work around the farm and some trail riding. It has the selectable 4WD you want with an on demand locking front differential. I wouldn't be worried about the belt drive systems as they have been well perfected. Ours has been used for quite a lot of heavy duty jobs and is still on the original belt. The 360 is not a hot rod but very reliable.

I got an 04 Honda recon and that thing will go.granted it wont follow a 4wd quad evey where but with a little work it will go all most all of the places a 4x4 quad will go.I am talking about mud, snow.I have a freind who's got a foreman 500 with 589's and i can smoke him up any hill.I have taken my recon up hills that are almost sraight up.And yesterday my freind who's got a recon took it up a hill my freinds and i call "the banshee hill" it is about 400ft long and it about a 75deggree angle. He got all the way to the top then it stalled on him because its a 97'.But the recon has gone trough every thing i have thrown at it.I have upgraded to mudlites on the back. And those thing work awsome on dry,wet or mud.The recon is the way to go!!!!!
