I am going to buy a used DS 650 and am considering an '04 and an '02. I was just wondering whether there were any improvements in the newer bike. I would prefer something newer but can't afford anything too expensive. Any comments/suggestions would be great.

 

Depending on the 04, it may have the lighter upper a-arms. The 04 has a shorter and lighter swingarm, and a lighter rear axle assembly. The 04 has a better headlight, heck just get the 04 if the price is right. The is nothing wrong with the 02's, just the 04's had some good refinements.

 

I would rather have the longer swinger personally. I guess it really doesn't matter but its almost 1.25 inches longer on the '02. I have an '02 and the only problem I've had with an oil leak at the starter (fixed with a .50 cent o-ring) I am really impressed with the performance thus far. I ride it like I stole it everywhere I go. I did do the new headlight conversion, but other than that I am completly happy. You will be happy with either choice. How much will you save on the '02... that might make up my mind if I was you. Good luck!!!
