Default My HPR stock bore today!!!

I took my stock bore Baja back to the dunes today and since i felt that it was fully broke in i really hammered it and the results were great.I have been trying to at least run even with my(or is it my wifes now?)690 Raptor and i was able to not only run with it but i actually beat it more than once.We raced at Florence Oregon at what we call the old comp hill and i was able to beat the Raptor with a friend piloting it 2 out of 3 times and he is about 30 lbs lighter than i am.We also did some rolling starts at the (new) comp hill at Florence and the results were the same which surprised me since the Raptor usually pulls away on a longer hill.If i seem excited you bet i am and as i have said before this may not be the fastest quad out there but for a stock bore this thing really rips.I will be looking for some bead to bead tires and .125 wheels and that should make quite a difference. One thing that was a huge help was switching the front sprocket from a 16 tooth to a 15,what a difference. These results were obtained with the stock swingarm so things will only get better with my +4" swingarm when i get it.I can only imagine what this motor will do with the addition of a nitrous system!!!I should add that i am still using the stock pipe with an ODP end cap so there is room for improvement in that area but the ODP end cap does an amazing job for what it is.I dont want to sound like a salesman for HPR but these parts combined with the great install from CG performance are way more than i expected. If any of you want a stock bore that really rips and you are on the fence about having one done i would say it is a great way to go.I was going to go salmon fishing tomorrow but i have to go back to the dunes and experience this again, the fish can wait.LOL

DS650powe-(Lectron 46HV,ported intake,no toil filter,ODP disced end cap,HPR 11.5:1 piston.HPR HR3 cams, head porting,Big Gun CDI,60% clutch springs.15 tooth front sprocket.)This combination is terrific for a stock bore and performs well above my expectations. The Raptor that i am comparing it to is a very fast runner and is hard to beat so todays results were very good indeed.

What level of porting?

I have pretty much the same build with the exception of a full CT exhaust, Vortex CDI, and stock porting. It runs great and is very trailable but I'm not quite doing it for me out in the big dunes. You really have to keep the RPMs up on this bike because that is where it likes to be.

DSengineer-I am not sure how to rate the level of porting that i have.I can tell you that my head was ported by the same Mechanic that did my 690 Raptor and both my Raptor and Baja are very good from top to botom for power delivery. What cams do you have?

Ron.We were out from 7:30 until about 4:00 and i only saw one other DS myself.I saw quite a bit of improvement from the 15 tooth sprocket change.I actually thought that it would be too low but i still have plenty of speed in third to do most of the hills that we drag on.I had to run against the Raptor a few times to make sure it wasnt a fluke. For now i will retain my stock chain size and sprockets but i would like to find a lighter tire and wheel option for 10" wheels. Now its time to figure out exactly what fuel this motor likes and that will require some time and effort but just as with my Raptor it will be worth it.I may not be able to beat all piped yfz 450s but one that i beat yesterday on the (old) comp hill looked very upset about it and kept eyeballing my Baja after the race,i enjoyed it!!!We are heading out this morning again since the weather will be so nice i figured why stay home.

Glad to hear things are coming together. Thinks for the info on the gearing. It is good to kind of get a bearing on how weight consideration needs to effect gearing.

Keep trying stuff! Sometimes it doesn't work but we have to find out somehow

Ride safe!

DS650powe.I did the Lectron 46 hv and ported intake first and i did a few rides that way and then had the rest of the work done.I dont know how much the porting effected my performance but the mechanic that did it does a very good job of porting heads. The cost was 250.00.
