Default diff lock prob, help!!!

My buddies front diff lock is having probs. Here is the deal. He has only rode it a few times before he was sent to basic training for the military so now when he comes back when the atv is lock and in a tough situation it makes a rachiting sound. He was gone so long that his warrenty is obviously over so the dealership wont fix it im sure so what do you think it could be. IT makes a ratchiting sound somtimes when using it. thanks

Sounds to me like partial engagement. Try adjusting the cable.

Thanks, i will try that. The belt adjustment is up close the brake correct. And i should adjust it to 13 pounds of tension right. Or are you talking of a different type of adjustment
