Default TWIN AIR OR K & N AIR FILTER FOR A 800 OUTLANDER

WHICH DO YOU THINK IS A BETTER AIR FILTER FOR A STOCK SET UP. I KNOW K & N ARE WASHABLE BUT ARE THE TWIN AIR. I ALWAYS HAD K & N BUT I CAN'T FIND WHERE TO GET ONE .DUST IS NOT A PROBLEM WHEN YOUR IN THE FRONT BUT YESTERDAY I WAS HANGING IN THE BACK SO I COULD GET MY FRIEND WET IN THE WATER HOLES. SO I GOT ALITTLE DUSTY. WHERE CAN I BUY ONE AND WHICH IS BETTER.

Well...under EXTREME dusty conditions i would think the foam filter to be better..maybe. I havent had any troubles with my k and n with the outerwear and its filterd better than the uni i had. I like how easy it is to clean the K&N filter but i wouldnt run it in any really dusty conditions without the pre-filter on it also. If it was me...i would get the K&N.

I usually run a K & N with a foam wrap over it with an Outerwear over the foam. This seems to work well in dust & sand.

Sounds like it would almost get less air than running a stock filter???

The foam I put over the K & N is the red 'course weave' foam wrap that is pourous. I oil the inside with spray on oil and it allows the air through but the larger particles of sand/dust that make it through the Outerwear get caught. The fine sand/dust gets caught in the K & N.

I run a turbo and have no problems getting air through this system. My air filter is not in an air box and sits right up front out in the open. I can go longer with this system and the K & N portion seems to be less dusty when I clean it than before.

Default TWIN AIR OR K & N AIR FILTER FOR A 800 OUTLANDER

I have tested the universal fit Kand N on both my Outlanders, but there really was little to no Hp gained. We had 49 hp before and after on the dyno of my regular Outy with the HMF pipe. The pipe and TFI was good for 4-5 hp, but the filter if it gained anything was only 1/2 hp. My other Outy had the same results, nothing extra from the filter. I am not sure about the Twin air but by looking at it I can't see how it would improve anything over stock. I have ran k&N' son everthing for years and years and in the cases were we tested them we always saw about a 2 hp gain but thats not the case on the Outy's????. The only thing i can figure is the factory filter must flow pretty darn well.
