250R opinions

What do people that have 250R's think of them, does everyone really love them as much as I hear?
I have ridden my friends, and it seems fun and fast but what about reliability, maintenance, parts availability, etc.? I am thinking about getting another 400EX, a 250R, or a banshee. Are there any other options as good as the R(Suzuki Quadracer, etc)?

i had a 400ex also. and right now i'm building 250r and plan to build another one. that almost shows how easy the parts are to get. alot of parts are interchangable between a 400ex and 250r. the first time i rode one i was more than impressed. i just loved the power. i would recommend them to anyone that rides trail or track. the reliablity i think is pretty good. i don't think there any harder to take care of than a 4-stroke cause you still got to change tranny oil but theres no valves and theres nothing to the engines. hope this helped

I have a 86 trx250r with lots of mods and it is as reliable as when I bought it stock! It starts on the 2-3 kick when it's could and on the first when it is warm.It is easily faster than a 400ex and will put all those new raptor owners wishing they would have got one.XC is all about durability. What do U see racing there mainly trx250r's.From stock ones to aftermarket frames big bore R's.

The 250r is the best fourwheeler out there. It is reliable, fast, parts are esy to get, fast, and it is a thrill to fly over 70' triples like nothing. Did I mention it is fast? In 1987 Gary Denton won the champion ship on a factory backed lt250r. This was quite a feat. It is the only other comparable quad. It can do everything a 250r can but not with the same aggression. But the bad news is [honda/red] probly won't be releasing it again for a long time.):

I own a 86 TRX250R and a 97 Banshee and race MX the 250R needs rebuilt 2 times a year the shee still running strong but i would not trade my 250R for any other quad on the market. The 400 would be better for cost wise to maintain but for flight the 250R is king .Dont get me wrong with the right mods on the 400 along with the right rider a 400 will roost a 250R on the track . If you are wanting to build one heck of one get a roll or largers frame. To much you say, then it won't be one heck of one. Go to e-bay, or there is an ad in dirt wheels for used frames. The factory is only required to stock new oem parts for ten years.

I currently own a 89 250R and wouldn't trade it
for anything thats currently out there. My brother
has owned two 400 ex's and we have switched back
and forth trail riding in the daniel boone nat.
forest. Both of us agree that the 400 ex rides
rougher ,is too short,low on power,and doesn't
handle as well as the 89R.Its funny after 11 yrs
out of production it is still the bike every sport
quad is measured by.

i have a quadracer and it rules. i have rode an R a couple times and its pretty nice. the quadracer is faster stock but their a lot harder to find aftermarket parts for. just about every1 makes stuff for the R. i don't know about the reliabilty of it but honda is known for that factor. my lt is awesome it takes everything i beat it with and asks for more.
