DS650 - SCRAMBLER 500 4X4 - RAPTOR 700R???
#1
im looking to get a new A.T.V. im looking for somthing that is comfortable with good power. most ppl point me toward the polaris/ but iv heard that the 500 is a bit week in the power department. so it all comes down to the ds650 or the raptor. im leaning more toward the DS...( im in the bombardier fourms) how dose the ds stack up against the raptor 700R in a drag race...engine power...suspension...handling??? any feedback would be great THANKS

well the ds is more comftorable than the raptor, has way better suspension, prob better handling since its wider, stock for stock the rappy is faster. Depends what kinda riding you will be doing...the raptor might handle better then the ds in certain situations like really tight trails etc...Open riding i say ya cant go wrong with the ds.

A couple moths ago I raced a new raptor and we were pretty even, just depends on who got the jump. I also raced a couple up Sand Mountain in Ut. with the same results. Also I've found that you can go all the same places as a 700R, wether it's in the dunes or out in the dirt. But in the end the choice is yours, just my $.02.

I have owned both the 700r and the DS. I prefer my 700 in almost all places except the wide open desert.
the suspension on both are great . the 700r will out handle the DS due to its lower center of gravity and less weight.
my 700 will out run a ds with the same mods as I have.
I am 6'5 and 250 and do not feel too big for the 700. Hightower rode my 700 a few weeks back and made it look small.
Pick either one and you will be happy. If you are trail riding more go with the 700. If you are dune an desert riding then either 1 is great.

I own a DS primarily because the rough sand beats me up. It is the only reason I am sore at the end of the day riding. When I rode a DS for the day, I was fine. It soaked up the bumps and made all the difference for me.
My wife rides a 700R. I spend quite a bit of seat time on it. There is no comparison between the two in the suspension department. The DS is far superior.
That being said, I suspect you could make a 700R ride like a DS for less money than it takes to make a DS run with the 700R IMHO
I would put a set of Elka triple rate shocks and long travel A-arms and a plus 4" swingarm....................
Oh hell, thats about $3500. Buy a DS and put race head, piston and cams instead. That will also buy you exclusivity. No one is impressed by a 700R that runs fast. Everyone is impressed by a DS that runs good.
That is my favorite part!
