I heard there was a better way that the mapquested LONG scenic route... Anyone from Vegas take a better route from Vegas to Pismo?? Maybe the 15 to bakersfield highway 58 to 99 south to Taft Highway east to Old river road??

The straightest way looks like 15 to the 58 through bakersfield to the 101 south. Now that would put you on the 58 for a good portion of the trip. I have never been on the 58 so I can't comment on that road. Are you towing?
Learnem lives in bakersfield and frequents pismo alot, maybe you PM him to find out how he gets there.
Taking the 15 all the way into LA and then heading up the coast on the 101 does not seem to make any sence. I would avoid going through LA at all cost! Depending on what time you get here the traffic can add hours to you trip.

Thanks Scott, I agree. We are leaving around 6-7 AM and pulling a flatbed trailer. Nothing big. Only 2 bikes on it.
I do not know why mapquest runs us all around LA and up the coast. My friend down here takes the 58 and said its not that bad especially if your not towing a big rig. Due to the traffic, It looks like cutting through will help in a few ways. Anyone else know anymore?

Mario,
I take my 30' toy hauler over 58 through Tehachapi 4-5 times a year for the last 6 years. Its a good road though heavily traveled by trucks. Certainly a better route then through LA.
From Bakersfield you have a choice between hwy 58 or 166. Both are good roads. Even though its slightly out of the way, 166 is not as twisty as 58 and not as many connector roads to get lost on making it the better route IMO.

Mario I agree with JSsDS,
Take 15 to Barstow then onto 58 thru Tahacapi into Bakersfield, 99 South, to 166 West then 101 North to Grand Ave. I'll be jumping on 58 just outside Mojave and going the same route on Fri. night Sat. morning.

hey guys!
there are a couple of ways to go once you get to Bako
Take the 15 to the 58, and the 58 all the way into Bako.
ROUTE 1
take the 58 to the 99 southbound and go to taft highway (119), turn right. stay on this road, as it will take you through some country bumpkin holes, including the city of taft. It will deadend in Maricopa, where you pick up the 166 westbound(turn right) towards the city of Santa Maria. You will then get to the 101, go north , or right again
(if you have time, in the city of Nipomo, which is on the way to Pismo, on the 101 in between Santa Maria and Pismo, get off on TEFFT st, and make a right. down a few blocks, on your left hand side, on a corner across from a church is Jocko's world famous steak house, a must stop!!)Text
Get off on Grand Ave, and make a left, back over the freeway, and that will take you directly to the beach.
ROUTE 2
take the 58 into Bako to where it dead ends and make a right. atthe next light, Stockdale Hwy, make a left. Take this road all the way out to the I-5. go northbound on the 5 to the 46. take the 46 westbound all the way to the 101
(if you have time, go past the 101 on the 46 into Paso Robles, and a block or two passed the 101, on the right hand side, is the Wagon Wheel hamburger stand...pretty good food too, but not as good as Jocko's!!)
take the 101 south to 4th street. there is a motel 6 there. take 4th street right, off the freeway, and up the hill. this road will take you to Grand ave, where you will make a right, and head directly to the beach.
if you need to call me, you can @ 661-496-1334 for more pismo info, cause I have ALL the restaurants dialed in

hey mario i know of a better short cut once you get to bakersfield come straight down 99 and come by my house, i will put some country style boneless pork ribs on the bbq and i will put some budlights in the freezer its only gonna delay you by about 3 hours. bakersfield to my house an hour and some change then from my house to pismo with the radar detector on its about 1 hour and 45 to 50 minutes.
