How does a 660 Raptor compare to the YFZ 450 in the woods?

the rear linkage suspension soaks up bumps well, makes it tougher to wheelie, but no challenge for the raptor still. the one complaint that i hear all the time though is that they are top heavy. so, depending on the trails that you mostly ride will help you to decide. also, 660 is fun, but do you need all that power through the woods, staight aways would be good for that and sand or fire trails(long straight dirt roads) other-wise, 400s are great all round for woods.

Depends on how comfortable you are with either bike. Big guys will like the rappy over the cramped and not so comfy YFZ. in addition. unless your a haul *** kinda rider the YFZ aint neccesarily the best quad for trails. put some 22" rears and 23" fronts on some heavy wheels and it will make the yfz more trail friendly but completly unnesesary for trails.. As is the raptor. a 400 ex or Z 400 or rap 350 are more friendly and comfortable for trails.

The 660 is a great trail quad. Its got a softer ride and reverse. The YFZ would be better for aggressive (high speed) trail riding. Thats were you tell the difference between the two.

the raptor is a nice bike. the yfz450, is more for racing or fast trails or just speed. if that was to made into a trail bike, you wheel need bigger tires, swing arm skid plate, and a heavy duty clutch, because you will be feathering that clutch a lot. also, yfz450 come new running rich, so you will need to jet it properly. not to side track, the 660 is a good bike, and i do not know though if they have replace the electrical problems with there ingition box and so on. i know they have had problems with electical componaints on some of them.

I like the raptor on the trails. it is a little over powered for woods, It needs about a 2-4 in extended swingarm, drop a tooth on front sproket,

Whats the deall with the electronic problems?? Haven't heard about it.

Thanx guys for the input. I got rid of a modified LTZ 400. I abused it for 3 years. It worked OK for woods, racing crosscountry and sand. I want to step up to a better faster quad . I,m trying to figure out what will work best for me. I'm 6' 2" at 200 lbs. I'm looking at all brands. So heap your thoughts on me. Thanx again for your thought's.

Raptor's have lots of torque and are most at home in woods, its all the torque which allows them go get around woods so quickly and thats why i like them.a yfz is less of a trial qquad and more of an mx machine, i don't think they're just as good as raptors on trials IMO

Finally a post with real answers and no BS...........I also think a rappy would fit your need for a woods bike. It does need to be geared down a touch from stock to bring it to life between the trees.
It must just be me, but I don't think the raptor is top heavy. Take into play the first ride I ever had was a three wheeler, so I am used to getting off the side and leaning into corners, I happen to like the Raptor (660) quite a bit.

Well, there is a little BS. In no way do you need to feather the clutch on a YFZ to ride woods. Will you be using the clutch more than if riding a Raptor, yes to a small degree. You don't have to use it anywhere near as much as when riding a Banshee or 250 2 stroke. The 660 is a great woods ride, comfortable and torquey. The YFZ handles better, and is easier to toss around but not as comfortable. If you want better handling as well as a faster motor, you might lean to the 450. BTW, from what I have seen, the Z quads are capable of going about as fast as I really want to in the woods anyway, why did you get rid of yours?
