800 EFI mileage per tank test!

I rode yesterday and was completely topped off. I took spare fuel just for the purpose that I wanted to run out, to see how many miles per tank. We did moderate cruising through the trails. Typically max speed of 20 MPH. We only hit a few of the Mudbogs. When we got back to the truck, I had 45.7 miles on the trip. It was flashing for about the last 1.5 miles. One thing though, I've altered the speedo ratio with bigger tires, but my buddy has a bone stock 500 and he showed 52.9. I would have to assume his is acurate. With these numbers, I show over 12MPG, maybe even 13, if I let it run all the way out to see the numbers. Didn't feel like finishing off the tank! Just thought that I would share a little fuel mileage info with ya'

I have a muscle in my thumb that always cramps in the full forward position which I'm sure hurts fuel milage. The best I ever got out of a tank was 48 miles. I just can't imagine how you can get 18 mpg. You must be turning the key off on the down hills and coasting.

well on my 800 ive avg. between 8 to 16 mpg. it all depends on how heavy my thump is and how much mud i hit. if i play hard im guessing 40 miles per tank is all i would get.im sure my bigger tires will hurt it even more now.

I know it isnt in the right cc range but I went trail cruising a few weeks ago in Montana, just average trail speeds 20 to 30. Nothing major, a few blips of the throttle to see what my 06 500Ho carb (300 miles on the odom) would top out at.. 60mph....
But I got to the 65 mile mark when my light started flashing, at 84 miles it stalled out, I was not on reserve so i still had gas left, how much in the reserve I dont know...
My friend has a 700 carb with 4000 miles ran out of fuel about 1 mile from where I did...

On a recent ride we got 20.5mpg on both the X2 and 450. Trail riding, varied speeds, no mudbogging.
So an 800 ridin in the same kind of conditions getting 12 - 13 mpg sounds resonable.
Viper65 - I don't think that the 06 Sportsman models have reserve on them....unless yours is different.

I have 2200 miles on my 2005 800 and the mileage has improve as I got more miles on it. Last summer riding the road from Red River
Hot Springs in Idaho to Darby Montana I got 106 miles before adding fuel. It had not quit but was close. If I ride hard it will use alot more gas than my 700 efi did. 50-70 miles per tank on the 800. Mileage on the 800 can really vary depending on your thumb.
