650i vs bomb 800
#1
I did a search and found no results for this subject. Since everyone who owns a 650i thinks it is superior to the 750, I would like to know if any 650 owners have gone up against the supposed big dawg 800. If the 650i handles as good as everyone says and it is actually faster than the 750, lets here some real world facts about my comparison. According to some other posts it is close to the Bomb 650, but far behind the 800. Other posts say the 750 is close to the 800. So how is the 650i faster than the 750. I really don't care about top speed myslef, but this debate is kinda getting under my skin. I'm sure other 750 owners have somewhat the same feelings.

From the reviews that I have read. the 650i is not any faster but is a little quicker off the line due to some of the changes made to the 650i (crankshaft, 9.9:1 compression, different transmission gears, etc)

Naabb has. here is his post from the 650i vs. 650 Bomb thread (that you posted in). i asked and it is stock.
"I have new bf650i and raced the 800 bomb across a bean field close to 200 yards. New to riding and was a nervous to look over but I knew it was not in front of me. The new bf650i is said to beat the bf 750i and I believe it. Rember this is the bf650i not the bf650sra. Also the 650i is easier to handle than its bigger brother. If you really want to race the 650 bomb against the bf 650i , I really doubt that the 650 bomb is going to beat it. Have fun trying though."
so it at least kept up.

So we are taking a story from someone who states they are new to riding and racing on a bean field? I guess it's somethin' to start with.

Well, I lined mine up with a 750 today. Stock for stock, and he beat me both times. Mine only has 7hrs and 50 miles on it right now and his has over 500 miles, so I don't know if it will be different when mine is broke in or not. However, both runs were close. The first run, he wheelied off the line, I got a quick lead, he soon overtook me, but my front bumper was even with his rear bumper the whole time; he couldn't leave me. The second run, he was quicker off the line and got about a quad length ahead but didn't pull any farther ahead. We ran about a half mile and both of us got to 69mph; he got 70 out of his for a second on the last run. Just thought everyone would want to know. I will say that there is very little difference and it would depend on which one was tuned the best and had the best driver. Neither one of these bikes will beat the other everytime.
Honestly if the 750 wheelied off the line and then caught up with the 650i the 750 is noticably faster.

yea, i think that there is a big enough difference in stock machines from the same model/year that no one is going to ba able to predict that a 650i will beat a 750 or vice-versa until a contest. then all that means is that particular machine beat the other one. if you substitute one of those two with another from the same model/year, the outcome may be totally different.
i wouldn't expect my 650i to beat a 750, but i put Bighorns on right away when i got it home, and the EPI black probably doesn't help.
and there is the Kawi Canada site power numbers (i know they are iffy at best, but really the best i can find) that show the 750 ahead with HP.
my best guess as to why some of the 650is are running so hard is the factory jetting is perfect (at least on mine), while the 750s are usually very lean (probably to beat some emissions numbers or something like that) and need dialed in. so this means guess work or a dyno run.
so do not expect the 650i to beat many 800s, but it might keep pretty close to some and scare some others.
but like i say, there are so many variables that there will be posts going both ways on almost every imagined match-up. nothing to really worry about. the biggest thing i would say it to make every effort to tune your machine the best you can and make sure any mods accually add power instead of going the other way (some exhaust systems are known to kill HP, for instance). that would put you ahead of any other machine that isn't tuned perfectly, no matter whose it is.
just my thoughts for whatever that's worth....
