Synthetic oil is just high refined regular oil with less natural contaminates like sulpher. These contaminates when mixed with combustion by products and water form acid. So with less acid, you have less oil changes. Unless you have a worn out engine with lots of blow-by, creating lots of friction creating by products in your oil. Which is the other reason for changing your oil, getting rid of damaging waste carbon that comes from the combustion process. I hope that makes sense.

A lot of people will give you bad advice when it comes to synthetic oil. Some of the advice here isn't too good either. You want to learn about oil. Spectro makes oils for powersports machines only. In my 25 years of driving. It is the best I have ever used. In my two stroke it is totally smokeless. Read this info and some other stuff on this site.

Polaris went to the 0w40 synthetic and recomends it because when the old 425 and 500s first came out they had cam trouble due to topend oiling. The synthetic cured it(when changed regularly).I would stay with a synthetic.
