Default Smoking Sunl 110

Need a little guidance. Last night I bought a Sunl 110 fpr my son from a local dealer. When I got the atv home I went over it to check it out(oil, tightened bolts etc). After about an hour of riding around, I started getting puffs of smoke after upshifting from 1st to 2nd. (I didn't let go fast enough to make it to 3rd!)Being brand new, you could smell the usual hot breaking in smell. Is the smoke something I should worry about, or is this normal on the first few runs? Any help would be appreciated!

did you change the shipping oil or just check it ? i hope you changed it if not it maybe a little late now, anyway you need to change the oil and replace it with 10-30 or 15-40.

Thanks for your info. Hopefully the hour riding time wasn't too long. I shut it down when I noticed the puffs. I'll try the oil change and see what happens.

You not suppose to run these engines for longer than 15 minutes with the shipping oil that is in them. Switch over to a 10w-40 SE SF or SC rated motorcycle oil.It will hold about 24 ounces.

When I talked to the Dealer, he said they change the oil before they sell it. Thanks for the response, I get a lot more information from this forum than I did from the dealer.

if it was me i'd changed the oil again, i won't trust what the dealer told me and besides it's only a couple of dollars anyway. also should check oil leval before you ride each time , it shouldn't smoke between shifts, it might stop after its breaks in, ride for a couple more times then if it still smokes take it back your dealer, the engine should have a 6 months parts warranty on it, labor not included,

I had this same problem with my Marshin ATV. It would smoke when you let off the throttel, I did some research and found an interesting article about the new metals used in engines today, sorry but I could not find it, but the jest of it was seating the rings in a fourstroke. Basically I took the quad out and ran wide open for a half a mile. turned around and ran wide open another half mile, now this goes against everything I was taught about breaking in a new engine. But it worked, road it around for another 10 minutes and the smoking stopped and its been the better of the 2 150's I own.

It is better to run a new motor hard to seat the rings. It will run better, longer and have more power in the long run. If you baby the motor it will never seat the rings properly. Doing short bursts of wide open throttle then vary the throttle.
