Default YIPPEE!! I GOT TO TAKE MY 500EFI TO THE SHOP!

i have 9.2 hours on my 2006 500efi sportsman took off today so i could take a little trip with my kids so when i went out to load the 4wheelers i loaded the sportsman first, killed it then i thought the fan was running thought that was odd but i loaded both kids 4wheelers and wifes. noticed fan was still running on the sportsman so i took a look at it, and it wasnt the fan, it was the fuel pump. i dissconnected the battery for a while and when i hooked it back up it had quit so i thought maybe it was just a glitch so i left it on the trailer. so this morning when i went out the fuel pump was running barely, maybe all night have no idea the battery was pretty much dead didnt have enough charge to try to start it. so i was lucky enough to break the news to the kids that instead of riding we would be taking my sportsman to the shop. so i left it there and they said they will let me know when they find the problem they claim they have never heard of anything like that before.

That is an odd one and not a problem I've heard of before either. Sounds like it might be a short there somewhere. You didn't have your key left in per chance did you?

No. I have the same bike and have not ever heard of that yet either. It can't be the ecm because of no power to it so it has to be some sort of short. I had alot of problems with mine also at the beginning but seems to be ok for now. Hope they figure it out soon for you.

could be a short in the ignition circuit that's activated with the key in, even if turned off ... never a good idea to trailer your quad with the key left in in any account .. or leave it out with the key in .. makes it too easy for the quad to grow legs ..

Hope you get it fixed soon so you can enjoy riding!!

Did you notice anything else that was still powered while the fuel pump was running, like the tail lights or speedometer? A short or problem w/ the ignition circuit could theoretically cause this, but probably not w/o also providing power to the tail lights and speedometer.

I suspect that the control module (in front of the radiator) is bad. Make sure the dealer checks for corrosion in each of the 2 control module connectors as well.

the key on my 800 never left the ignition the 12 months that i owned it and i never had that sort of problem. sounds like a bad pump to me. my predator has had the key in it for the last 10 months, and my Sportsman 500 has had the key in it for the last 6 years

called the dealer today and they said that they put a new fuel pump and tank on my sportsman this morning and they thought that fixed it but about an hour after they finished the problem was back, the new fuel pump was doing same thing so they said they were awaiting a call back from polaris to see if they had any ideas. i am starting to get the feeling i should have gotten another brand . my brother-in-law has a 2001 sportsman that has never been in the shop for anything and has probably seen serviced 0 times and has never had any problems so that sold me on a polaris but now with less than 10 hours even the dealer cant figure out the problems.
anyone else have any ideas or have had this happen to them?

no offence, but in my opinion the fact that you are considering another brand after your first problem, for a first year model is kind of pathetic. i know when you spend that much money you want it to be perfect, but this isnt a documented problem as no one on the forum here has any idea of what it is, and neither does your dealer so its not like you've bought something bad. your problem will get figured out soon enough and you can go back to enjoying your quad.

about 8 hours of thetime i have on the atv was me or the wife following my kids on their raptor 50 and raptor 80 so it isnt like i have abused my atv by no means about 35mph is about the fasted its been so far.
Call the dealer and tell him to check the control module. At least have him try a control module from a known good bike. If I was a betting man, I'd bet that's what your problem is.
