Ok, let me explaine what I will be using it for. I already have a "sport" quad and now I am looking for a "utility" quad to pull wagons and push snow. I plan on getting lots of snow this winter so I am going to need one soon. This needs to be a strict Utility quad except for the rare ocation my brother might go riding with us. I look forward to many responses, give me your thoughts. Thanks

I suggest you buy something with gears instead of a machine with a belt for grunt work.......I hear the Big Bear has a very low first gear

Well actually the kodiak is shaft driven, and I had gears on my last "snow pusher" (actually it was a 1985 Suzuki lt125 with a plow) and i didnt like it, just want forward and reverse. And second, if I am pushing snow, why would i want a 2 wheel driven one? Keep the posts coming. Thanks

Yes the Kodiak does have a drive shaft and a belt on the transmission. The Big Bear does come in 4 wheel drive!

I have a Wolverine and if you already have a sport quad then there is no reason to get a spor/utility ATV. get the kodiak. The wolverine would do the job but if you are looking for a real workhorse then get the kodiak. it's like a midsized and fullsized pickup. the midsized will do the job but the fullsized will do it better

Thanks guys,
I am pretty sure I am going to get the kodiak. The dealer gave me a great deal on a winch and plow "duo" for $500 bucks but is a 1996 kodiak still worth about $3600, cause that is how much they are asking. Also, could someone explain to me how the 2 or 4 wheel drive thin works, is there just a button of is it something else? What is the kodiaks top speed?

Oh and could I put a 60" pplow on there without a problem, or should it be a 48"?

derekhonda,
A 96 Kodiak is not an automatic, is a manual shift 5 speed. It also doesn't have a 2/4 wheel drive option. Its a full time 4WD. Its not liquid cooled like the 2000/2001 model. Its an air/oil cooled engine. I used to own a 99 Kodiak and it was the set up this way. I would imagine the 96 has more in common with a 99 then a 2000/2001. But to be honest, I have never ridden a 96 Kodiak, so I might be wrong about that.
