Default air box lid

are there any dangers to removing the lid? many people seem to have it done but i would think all the dust would be real bad..

There is not point in doing that.. Unless it is modded...

It can make a huge difference in performance on some machines, when combined with other mods like uncorking the exhaust. The drawback is you are open to dust and water splash. I run the EHS Racing lid, with Outerwears......it make a huge difference at keeping the box cleaner!

I cut a big hole in my lid and then slip over it a old pair of pantie hose. It acts as a prefilter and does a pretty good job of it. If you remove the lid you must bump up the main jet or risk burning it up.
