How important is valve clearance adjustment?
#1
Hi all, I bought a 350 Bruin in January and read about valve clearance in the manual and how it needs to be adjusted periodically but I would have to take it in to the dealer. I just bought a benz quiet exhaust system and have since noticed that the engine produces more noise than the exhaust now and some of that noise may be due to the valve clearance tolerances may need adjusting. Could adjusting the valve clearances reduce that noise and if so could someone explain what it takes to adjust this myself without taking it into the dealer since the 6 month warranty has expired? Thanks!

warranty or not, you'd still have to pay for the service at the dealer. It's considered a "maintenance service" and not covered under warranty
It's not that hard to do, but if you screw it up you could burn the valves. It all depends on your comfort level. I'm an auto mechanic, doing the valves on my Rancher is like a walk in the park for me.
If you plan on doing it yourself, buy a service manual, it will walk you through the steps, and you'll find that it's really quite easy and not worth the 75 bucks the dealer charges you for it.

i got my valves adjusted at a dealership for $50.....
if you jsut take them the quad.. it'll be like $100-130
take all of the plastic off the front and the gas tank so they can access the valves easily..
