For those that were curious -Catlance especially-I finally managed to get a few pics up from my deer hunt. After purchasing a new scanner today, I've decided one thing for sure -I HATE COMPUTERS! Man, had a hell of a time figuring this thing out, getting all the files to line up right, sending it here, then there, copying over to this other location, then to the interenet, what a pain in the butt!

Anyway, I've posted a handful of pics from my first buck that I shot on Nov. 13th. They aren't that clear as it was fairly late in the evening, and the light was bad for a disposable camera. As I get the next roll developed of a few more deer pics, and some of my log bed that I just finished building, I'll get them posted as well. These new ones are under "My First Buck" album. Like I said before, he's not big by any means, but he is a nice little 4x4 whitetail, that was taken with my Remington Model 700 .30-06.

Let me know what you think,

Mike

cowboy,
Nice deer! Thats a good size white tail. But I was wondering one thing, where is the Cat? Or did you haul it out on your shoulders? Just kidding man, it really is a nice looking animal. Talk at ya later.

Grizz:
Hey, thanks man! Actually, the 'Cats were snooz'n back in the den (at home in my parents garage). It was the late hunt up here in Pullman, and kind of a spur of the moment hunt. And, I tried to pack him out on my shoulders, but my buddies wouldn't let me-they wanted to drag him out! Pretty cool for my first time getting a deer. All I did was shoot, they did all the work! Heh Heh Heh. Some how I suspect next time won't be as easy though. Oh well, it was sure a great time, we all had fun. And, honestly I don't know who was happier-me getting my first deer, or Jesse and PJ being thrilled for me getting it.

Nice buck Mike, He's got a nice big rack for a 4 X 4. From the pics he looks like about an 18" spread and even maybe a little taller than that. My first 6 x 4 was about 18" wide by 18" tall but he was nowhere near as symetrical as yours. I really like very symetrical racks, no matter how many points or the size, I think I would definitely get him mounted (especially since he's your first).

Too bad you missed out on the fun of hauling him out of the field on your Cat. After so many years of dragging deer out by hand, that was the best part of our hunt this year, even though I didn't shoot anything. I've put up a couple of pics of our hunt on my link below, I'll have more & hopefully better pics up in about a week when I get my roll of film back from the developer.

Again congrats on the buck & you can come hunt Whitetail out here in Missouri anytime, we'll show you around.

Lance

Congrats on the first buck, cowboy. I'm not much of a judge of deer, since we have so few up here we rarely see one, let alone hunt them; but he looks pretty nice to me.

Is that a Harris bi-pod on your rifle? I've considered one for my Remington 30-06 for sheep hunting in the wide open alpine above tree line. I've worried that it would make the rifle unbalnced and cumbersome. How do you like it?

Pretty sweet. I like the shot of the two guns side by side. Whose guitar is in the background?

Hey Mike, did you ever do anything with your muffler on your Cat? (Welding project)
I was just wondering if you did and how you made out.

Thanks to everybody, I'm thrilled with him myself. He tastes great too, not all gamey like others I've tasted before so that is good to know.

YukonRon:
Yeah, it's a Harris Ultralight Bipod Series 1A2 Model L. Do some looking on the price, I kind of got screwed on that one. I paid $69 for it at the Husky Sport Shop over in Idaho. At the time, it was the cheapest I could find, but also the strongest. I looked at several other brands, but not only did they cost more, they weren't half as strong. I just saw an ad in the Cabelas catalog the other day for the same bipod for $52 if I remember right. I was a little upset about what I paid for it at first, but after getting my deer, now I don't care, I've considered it a part of my rifle now, and that it has paid for itself.

It does add a little weight up front, but not that much that it really makes a difference. The part that screws into your stock also has your sling attachment hole in it, so you can still use your sling very easily. It folds up and down very nicely, and extends out smooth as well. You can fine-tune the length for varying terrain with the dial ***** on it, or just pull it out to full extension. I messed with the fine-tuning bit once during elk hunting, and it worked good, held it in place.

As for stability, it's amazing. I don't think the rifle would be more stable locked in your gun safe. With the legs locked down, all you have to do is shoulder the rifle, put your shooting finger on the trigger, and don't even bother to use your left hand. Man I'm telling you that thing doesn't move even the slightest bit. Well, it will move with your breathing, if you're moving your shoulder at all, but side to side, and up and down if you keep still, it's solid. We could see when I shot my deer in the soft dirt, the legs of the bipod just pulled strait back into my shoulder, left two little tracks. It never left the ground, so it is very accurate. It is very easy to take on and off too, all you need is a coin or leatherman tool, you're set. Just clamps on to your sling mount in a few seconds. That way, if you don't like packing it, you just take it off, put it in your pocket. When you get where you're going, slap it on and set up. If you haven't noticed, yeah, I'd recommend it highly. I know mine is never coming off my shooting rifle, unless I decide to switch to a different caliber. Hope that helps.

Andy:
Thanks, good observation too. That is my guitar. I got a wild hair a while back and decided I was going to teach myself how to play. Bought the guitar, a couple books and started up. Now, I don't hardly have the time to even touch it anymore. Still fun though whenever people come over to hang out with a few brewskies, ya know.

BadCat:
No, I had really wanted to do that welding job to the muffler, but I had to wait for all the others in the class to finish their projects before I could get on the welders. Then, they said I had to do the lathe work before I could work on a special outside project, so as it turns out now, I've only got three more days of lab the way the semester is set up. Doesn't look like I'll be able to get it in. I'm sure that they'll let me come back next semester though to do it then, if I get a chance.

One thing though, my instructor said it would be very difficult to weld the muffler, being that it is so thin. He thought I'd end up buying a new muffler, which I didn't want to do all that much at the time. Did you have any problems with this?

Thanks again guys,

Mike

Cowboy- Did the same thing 8 years ago with a couple friends, only I just used my Dad's old guitar. In 97, I dropped about $1300 on a 92 model Gibson Dove. It was absolutely brand new. Got it from a collector that lived in San Diego. Still looks like it just came off the shelf.
