Default someone explain to me why you shouldnt run a modded quad with a lid on the airbox

I just saw a post and a lot of people were sayin that most people with modded quads run theirs without a lid on the airbox or either they get a new lid. I've never heard of this. Why do people do this?? And what kind of lid is the best to get for my Rincon when I get it and add the mods??? Appreciate anyone who can answer.

The reason you would not want to run with a lid on your airbox or at least run with a modded airbox is for performance. When you mod a quad, pipe, jet, intake and so forth, you want to create the least amount of restriction for the engine. Less restriction means more power. Opening up your airbox lets the machine suck in more air and putting an exhaust allows more airflow at a quicker unrestricted rate, making the power and performance of your engine greater. If you're modding your quad allowing more air flow in makes a greater difference. This is why people tend to run modified airboxes or no box at all.

Mainly people do that on modded sport quads. I wouldn't recommend removing the lid on a utility quad for the fact that they are usually ran in muddy conditions.................way more than a sport.

I have to agree, You have to determine and consider what type of riding your going to be doing. Riding in mud and water could cause more damage without the lid.

Dont run the rincon without a lid. It will not do much for performance, it will run lean and it is louder. No reason to not run it. If you want mods depending on the year get a pipe, high flow airfilter and power commander for the efi, if it is carbed then cut the carb spring, rejet, pipe and high flow air filter.
