What do you mean by "tranny"???? I'm not real well aquainted with the Griz, but doesn't it have a belt drive transmission??? Do you perhaps mean transfer case???

I'm not sure if there are any transmission components on the engine of the Griz, but one thing to consider is that everything except the Honda 450R (God bless Honda!) has an integrated engine/transmission (they share the same oil). So, if there was water in the transmission, it also was in the engine. There could be some engine damage as well.

Yes it does have a belt drive system. Not sure if it was the traansfer case He said the air intake for it was at the front and he went through a water hole and it droped a bit too much and got some water in it. But he said no water got in the engine. He has then snorkaled the transmission or transfer case whichever one it was.

I would go to the Yamaha forum, and ask those who are more familiar with your specific machine.

Sounds like he got water in the belt case. That's no big deal. People do that all the time. If it was really muddy water I would pull the belt case off and have a look at the clutches. It's a good idea to clean them every once in a while anyway, water or no water.

I have both my air and my belt intake snorkeled as well as my belt exhaust. I have gotten water in my transmission quite a few times. As long as he drained it and checked for any debris in there, it is fine. That is why they put drain plugs on there. You will be just fine.
