Default 14 tooth sprocket front

Im really considering a front sprocket from rocky mt.There only like $12.99 without shipping. But what do i go with,my ds650 x only has a (k&n with outerwears,AMS sidewinder paddles for rear)other than that its stock.I mainly ride alot of creek beds, steep dune hills, mud bogging,Just about everything.I dont really need to go 75 + miles mph.But i wanna go fast on top end still. So how much will a 14-tooth sprocket hurt me on top end?Or should i go with 15-tooth.Any help REALLY APRECIATED!Im ordering one tomorrow,so help me out fast if possible. Thanks

For the price I would go ahead and get one of each and try them both under your normal riding conditions. I've gotten three from them and have been more than pleased with thier durability. I found that with my riding style and terrain I usually ride in that the 14t wasn't exactly what I needed. May come in handy for Sand Mountain though.
The 14t would stand the bike straight up with little to no effort running 22" Sand Stars but the 15t did what was needed at the hill and especially out in the dunes and bowls.

Hope this helps some.

Did you jet for the K&N? Also, for the cost you cannot beat OldManRacing's stock carb mods. Deffinitely worth the price of admission.

No i did not rejet.Im not mechanicly smart.Normally i had people do the mods to past quads. But i do need to learn. But the jetting and that stuff confuses me.So i think 15-tooth i will do.Also will i need a new chain for the 15,14 tooth sprockets.

No new chain required, just a little tightening. I too was at first intimidated by thought of opening a carburator. We are here to walk you through it with ease. It is a very simplistic mechanism that even Coco the gorilla could handle. Now a few short years later I'm tinkering with TM45s, valves, clutch plates, and whatnot. All thanks to the fine folks here on the Bomb forum.

Correct. Slightly loosen your chain, remove the nut, slide sprocket and chain off of countershaft, put new sprocket in chain, slide back onto countershaft, replace nut and tighten, rebend locking washer or bend your new one, adjust chain.. The washer is normally good for two or three cycles of straightening and rebending.

Let us know how your new sprocket works out.

It is really simple actually just make sure when the new sporcket is in tighten the rear carrier pulling the chain tighter but having atleast 1/2 in of slack in it...I usually put a screwdriver into one of the slots on the side of the carrier and when you move the quad itll move the carrier around for you. If there are any problems let us know on the forum and we will be glad to help out.

It sounds like you ride about the same stuff as I do, I went from stock to a 14t front, and 22 inch Mud Machine A/Ts on the rear. I love the low end. I took it to Little Sahara for a week and loved the same 14T with 22 inch sand stars on the rear. Still had enough top end to stay with a lot of banshees, only got beat by one(highly modded). And only other thing out that week that stayed right there was a honda450r modded and preddy with pipe and possibly more. That was dragging, I mainly spent all my time riding trails and the dunes and not dragging. The trails and main dunes the 14 T was perfect. Stayed right with a buddy of mine on a 400ex through all the trails and would smoke him on the whoops in 3rd gear pinned.

Yeah,i ordered the 15-tooth sprocket from rockymt atv today.14.75$ thats a good price compared to ondunes.com But i guess you pay for what you get.I ride at atica IN.You may have heard of the badlands.I also can stay right with my cousins 450r's.But pretty even.My cousins are no light wieghts 200+ easy,as i am too,but i love my new AMS sidewinder V paddles. But i bought only 20"s instead of 22".I never need to go 75+mph so i think i need more grunt for the paddles.
