Fast four strokes!!!!
#1
This is more an observation than anything but where are all of these fast four strokes coming from lately?I was at Florence Oregon today and i have never seen so many fast four strokes running on one hill at the same time.I raced the first truly fast suzuki 450 that i have come up against and it was all i could do to hold him off(barely). There were three TRX quads that were very fast and one that out ran me by a couple of quad lengths every time we ran.The TRX big bores are real contenders and will only get better and i even ran against a totally tricked out 700 Kawasaki that was a real screamer.I enjoy the competition and win or lose its all fun for me but the wins are getting harder to come by.I guess when i get my Nitrous system i will have to be willing to push a pretty big shot to out run some of these quads. This sport is advancing at a very fast rate and for someone like me whos has been duning for more than 25 years it is hard to believe how far four strokes have come.

Glenn that is the truth$$$$$.Usually i will run into maybe one or two really fast four strokes but yesterday they were everywhere.I like the competition and it makes for some good racing. The surprise was the 450 Suzuki and the way it took off the line,it just jumped out there. What i really like is lining up for the first pass against some of these faster quads and surprising them with the way it takes off.I get taken more seriously the second time.

I was talking to one of the local shops about the new Suzuki LTR 450 - Apparently, with the Yoshi pipe and chip, those things are pretty darn fast. I have not seen them race side by side up against the YFZ, but it is interesting anyways.

Mark this particular 450 was probably modded farther than just a pipe and chip.I have ran some of those and although fast they were not quite what this one was.As you know you can hear when a motor has very high compression and this one sounded like it was really out there.Things have changed a lot in just two years.

The LTR is interesting. I dont know what the buffer of hp is with that motor. I guess people will build them and find out, and then parts will be made.

Well from overhearing talk at the hill it sounds like there are some high compression pistons for the Suzuki but then maybe that was just talk. The person i heard talking about the high compression pistons for the Suzuki was on a Suzuki so i assumed he was correct but maybe not.

I wouldnt surprise me to see pistons already. Sometimes the manufacturer will work with aftermarket companies even before the quad is introduced. But that kind of speed cant be simply the piston. I think its a fast quad! Light as well. Can you imagine never having to worry about jetting ever again? Thats what I am talking about.

Yes, those 450's are very fast! I was following a hop-uped YFZ through the trails a couple of weekends ago. Very tough to kept up with those little bastards. They accel very good stock. Although revin to 12000RPM's (or whatever they rev to) takes it toll on a quad after a while. When the 450's are in the shop being rebuilt, our low maintence machines are still goin
