Default purchasing: 400ex or raptor 660

Ok, ive been trying to sell my old beat up warrior for a while and ive finally done it. Now i am trying to buy a new quad. It is either a 01 or 02 raptor 660 or a 2000-2003 400ex. I can get the 400exs for around $1800-$2300. THe raptors are between $2400 and $2900. ALthough its not a big price difference im only 16 and i dont have much money so 500 bucks is a pretty big difference. ALso since i dont got much money i need sometihng that will be reliable and can take a beating with out dying on me. I like the raptors power but i like what i hear about the 400exs trailability. I ride trails, hills, mud, snow, tight trails, rocky trails, and some small jumps. Im about 5'11" about 250 or so. I dont like what i hear about the raptors tippiness. I need help decided which quad to get, any help would be greatly appreciated thanx

go with the $1800 400ex You can gain the power you need with some inexpencive mods later on.

I would go w/ the 400ex because I read about 01' tranny problems w/ the raptor.

thats what i was thinkin, im leaning towards the 400ex cause of its trailability plus the inexpensive price and reliablity.

They are both great quads, but since you are on a lower budget I would highly recommend the 400ex for reliability reasons. The 400 is bullet proof, and the early Rappy's had some problems here and there.

hey man im going to tell you dont waste your time with the raptor- the raptor may be slighty faster and more tourque but its also more money.. more than 1800- 2300-- and tipsy with know tranny problems.. the honda is a basic low compression motor that makes decent power and will make nice power with some add on's you are a big kid but it will lug you around fine.. it looks like your confusing the hell out of yourself - wish i knew you were looking for an ex my buddy just sold his 02 - for 2300

But anyway now i have my $800 beater warrior than im going to run into the ground lol .. it took my 3 hours to straigten out your mess and your mechanics mess lol but it was expected... that was a pretty ingenius idea with the wires coming off the batter to jump the starter realy but dude they were no fused just sitting there hot-- if that grounded out you would have seen that thing in a firey mess and could have burned down your parents house lol...... or your ***...if you looked into the wiring a little you would have seen the wire going to the relay that need to be fixed.. the carb was out a little i straightened that out to -- and the broken exhaust no problem i fixed that with an extra jetski exaust coupler i had lying around -- put 8 disks in and when i get the clutch in the mail i ordered {65} i can see where i need to jet.. that clutch was fried - i dont know who a big kid like you rode that or how your {mechanic} didnt know that .the thing barely moved its been bad for a long time to get it to the point it was at.. i think you would have been happy with just a new clutch . honestly a new clutch and jetted right.. witht he exhaust .. filter and new rings-- that quad would not be much slower than a 400 ex -- so some new baja lighta and a right front wheel bearing and its ready to go run some trees over .. if i run across and cheap 400's ill let ya know

You seem to understand the various issues. Raptor has a thrilling powerband, but that's about all that I find positive about that machine.

I have an 00 400EX with literally thousands of hard *** desert miles on it, and still going strong!
