What are the specs for the valve adjustment. I plan to do it myself but I do not know the specs.

 

Look under the seat. There is a sticker attached to the air box lid that has the specs.

 

I check the airbox lid but there was no sticker there that had valve clearance specs.

Could someone post the proper intake and exhaust valve clearance specs?

 

Sure. .004" intake, .006" exhaust. Hope it helps. You really should have the specialized tools from motion-pro corp in order to do it with a minimum of hassle. MUCH EASIER.

 

What kind of specialized tools do you need? Does anyone sell motion pro tools online? Just want to be ready before I tear into mine.

 

Valve clearance (cold):
Intake:
0.10mm - 0.15mm
(0.0039" - 0.0059")
Exhaust:
0.15mm - 0.20mm
(0.059" - 0.0079")
I set mine to 0.005" intake and 0.007"exhaust. Runs great. All you really need is a feeler gauge, a 10mm wrench and a small metric wrench (approx. 2.5mm). I took a 3/32" and filed it slightly bigger to fit. Worked fine. Sears sells a set of feeler gauges that are angled. They help make it a little easier to get the feeler under the rocker arm.

 

I know this may sound like alot to ask but what do you have to remove and how do you get to the valves?? What do i take off step by step in order to do this myself?? Thanx alot

What you have to take off and what you want to take off are two different things. I suppose it could be argued that one could do a valve adjustment without taking off anything but the valve covers. I chose to take off the front fender/cowl assembly, the gas tank, and the rubber protection cover that sits under the gas tank. With all of this removed I had clear access to the valve covers. I then removed the valve covers and adjusted the valves.
