OK, my son has a 05 Raptor 350 and it has it's share of hours/miles, needs a clutch and has it's share of battle scars. The owner of our local shop is willing to trade me straight up, tax included, for a 05 Blaster (brand new) with a new warranty.
All please give me your thoughts on this.
Raptor 350: 4 stroke, 6 spd, reverse, elec start, worn clutch, real crappy tires, etc, etc. it books for $3450
Blaster 200: 2 stroke, 6 spd, no rev, kick start, etc. MSRP is $3600, she's giving it to me at her cost with all taxes included in an even trade.
Oh, and we do alot of mixed riding, trails, tracks, whatever.

Will your son be cramped on a Blaster? They're a bit smaller but still lots of fun. How badly do you need reverse? Maybe not that big of a deal since the blaster is pretty light. I'd go for the new quad if there isn't something he doesn't like about it.

Be leary anytime a dealer is making you a so called great deal.

In response,
He's 11 y/o, 85lbs, so the size isn't an issue. He's in school right now so I need to talk to him this afternoon to get his input. And as for the dealer, I've known them for a few years now and have bought my last 4 new quads from them. This Raptor was bought from them but I got it used from the original buyer.
I grew up on 2 strokes but I'm kinda leary about the reduction in cc's 350 to 200. I haven't ridden a blaster so I don't know what the difference will be. If anyone has experience riding both, hopefully you can give me a comparison.

I've ridden both and both are fine quads, but trading a Raptor 350 for a Blaster would not be a good idea. The "actual" value for a Blaster as soon as it leaves the floor is crap. As a matter of fact, I saw a "mint" '03 go for $1500 on ebay the other day. You would be better off putting a clutch and tires on the 350 in the long run.

I agree, you will lose 20% to 25% as soon as you get the blaster home. Put a clutch in the raptor and get some descent but inexpensive tires on ebay, kk

Yeah, a clutch is easy to replace, and at 11y/o, I am guessing a new quad would also end up getting some battle scars right quick. Throw some new tires on it, pick up a new clutch and service manual if you need to, and ride that bad boy. Oh, and I can see the potential of that kick start being a real pain in the butt. For the most part, a Blaster should start pretty easy. Your son should get the hang of it quick. But e start is just so much easier...
