SUNL 90cc keeps trying to start but won't
#1
I bought my daughter a SUNL 90cc and it ran great at first. Now it won't start. I have replaced the battery because it wouldn't keep a charge and I have also replaced the spark plug. I can get it to turn over but it won't start. Any help?

Do you have spark? Have you checked to see if fuel is getting to the carb/cylinder? If you have spark you can always put a little starter fluid into it. If she starts but quits shortly after, you probably have a fuel flow problem of some sort.

goodguy52,
If you run a search for SunL in this forum and the Raceway forum. You will find that many SunL owners have had the same problem. The threads will point you in the right direction.

I have read the other suggestions on this forum and have been trying them for about a month. The reason I posted this again was to see if I could get some new suggestions.

I don't know whats on this forum, but I googled the same problem a month ago and found something about some "gel" in the carb for shipping causing a lot of problems. I sprayed in a bucket load of carb cleaner and watched a yellow goo flow back out. After that it has run quite well.

I just purchased a SunL SLA-110KB for my son and I also had problems with it starting. I checked for spark and to my suprise NO SPARK! To make a long story short, I found the problem to be with emergency shutoff switch system. First the wire that comes from the handbrake down to the main wirining harness under the front light cover was a bad connection. Fixed connection and I got spark. Also I had a small problem with the shutoff switch on the left handlebar, I found that you need to push in on the red button if you use this switch to shut off the bike. I actually had to push it a few times and move it to the right and left (I now use the key to shutoff the bike).

Did you check the tether on the back. Disconnect it. You dont need it. Does this have remote start? Is there spark and fuel? Did you clean the airfilter. Another problem is they have had problems with valves bending or the valve guides falling out. Is there compression? What have you checked exactly?

I have checked the very basics. It has spark, The air cleaner is clean, I have fuel in it,I have bought a new battery and it now keeps a charge. Unfortunately I am new to the ATV arena and I am not very mechanical.
Questions.
1.were do I inject the carb cleaner and please be specific.
2.How do you check for compression
3.is it complicated to get into the valves and valve guides
Sorry but I am learning.
Thanks for all your help.

1) check for spark pull plug and ground end of plug to the head (high voltage) make sure pretty blue spark and not weak spark
2) if you have spark remove air cleaner cover get can of starting fluid and squirt in to the air box (be careful not to much) squirt while turning bike over not alot
3) if it still don't start go to your local auto parts or harbour frieght or something like that and get a compression gauge( some are just push on some screw in hole whichever is easier I prefer screw in type) remove spark plug and insert gauge turn bike over 4 or 5 times see what gauge says and thats your compression.
try this and let me know what happens
