Have any of you ever converted a 2x into a 4x? If so what did you have to do special and if not what problems made you stop.

Hmmm, Funny you should ask. Actually I have just done the opposite...4x to 2x on my 2004 along with a weight reduction plan I'll soon have the quad I was after when I bought this one new. I found all the 2 wheel parts I needed on ebay using part # cross reference from a polaris web site. Had to change out the strut housings, steering shaft, and tie-rods are different length. Still using my transmission with the output shaft spinning. I may pull that out later and make a block-off plate. In your case you would also need to round up the throttle lever box that has the 4x switch, and the wiring harness not to mention the correct tranny. I don't think it would be worth the effort myself.

It would be a waste of money and time. It would be cheaper to find a 4x4 Scrammy.
