04 Raptor 660 wont turn over
#1
Hit the starter button and all I head was a click. So I tapped the side of the casing turned over for a quick second then stopped. So I tried again this time it started to smoke. Think its wiring or a fried starter? Gonna tear it apart tomorrow. Just wondering if you guys had any guess or suggestions. Thanks Josh

Im gonna dig into it tomorrow. Just suprised the hell out of me it started to smoke. I just took it had power after that. Just seeing what you guys thought. It would be nice if it was a loose terminal.

Where was it smoking from? Where did the ticking noise come from? It could be your starter relay, when the go out you will hear a clicking noise from it. If your not sure what the starter relay is, its the little box that the battery cables attatch to.

Ok looked into it more today. Power wire to the starter was broke. Fixed that and took out the starter it all looked fine to me. Hooked it back up same thing just a click and kinda buzz from the relay. Checked power from the relay to the starter it is getting power but not alot. All I had was a test light and it was dim. But power was coming from it. Toasted starter , bad cdi , or bad starter relay this crap is driving me nuts.

Well if it is just a single click when you push the button then it is the relay, if it is multiple clicks when you hit the button then it is a weak battery! Starter relays arent all the pricey so if it is just a single click then I would go buy one. I have had this same problem and it was the relay.

Have you hooked a jump box to the battery? I had the same problem while I was out riding, and immediately I thought "The damn starter burnt out". When I tried to start it, I would get a click and that's it. After a while I got no sound.... the battery wasn't holding a charge.

Yeah I tried to jump it and also tried to do a jumper wire from the battery to the starter all. I got was alot of spark. If it is a bad relay would i get power from the relay. Like I said I put a test light on the relay and got a very dim light when hitting the start button.
