I just bought myself a 2006 KFX 400. When should you have the first oil change? And what are your favorite motor oils? Locally I can get Mobil 1 synthetic oil and Amsoil.

 

either would be great. just make sure your choice has the viscosity grade (weight) and API code the manual calls for.

Check out some Royal Purple. It is expensive, but is great motor oil.

 

Amsoil synthetic is the best choice, IMO. I use 0-40, and an amsoil filter.

valvoline atv oil is good also but 4.50 quart

 

4.50 is fairly cheap compared to 7.00 + for amsoil a quart!

 

i use maxima in my Z400,supposed to have the most antiwear additives.i change my oil about every 10-14 hours of riding.

 

Rotella T is even cheaper yet at about $1.25 a quart.

 

Rotella T is not good to use in ATVs. I sent an email to the company that makes it and they told me "it might work okay, but it has too high of an ash content for us to recommend it for use in All Terain Vehicle motors." That was all it took for me not to use it, and go with Amsoil in my case.
