2005 Grizzly 660
#1
What is top speed? Any problems to look at when I look at a used one. I am looking at a 2005 w/plow,winch,ITP 589 tires, skids, and 4 snorkels for 5,300. Is this a good deal. It has 460 miles. It has scratches and a small 2' tear on rear fender. Any known problems?

You can probably find a better deal than that. The 2005 Grizzly is a good machine but they are just out dated. With that being said it's still an excellent quad. I have put 2000 miles on my 05 without any serious issues. I have had to replace one CV joint and three wheel bearing though.
Since the one you are looking at has 589's on it I would check each wheel real good for worn bearings, although it's not a very expensive repair. One of the known issues with all of the older model Grizzly's is the vapor lock problem, mine does it. It doesn't occur very often but if you are sitting for a second or two and then gun it to try and go up a steep hill it will spit and sputter which can be dangerous in some situations. It rarely happens though, if you don't sit around with the quad running or drive it real slow before trying to climb a hill you will most likely never have a problem.
Personally I would never buy a quad that has snorkels on it but that's just me. I look at it as an indicator of what it has been through. I guess you could also look at it as the person that has it is taking care of by putting the snorkels on it so the engine doesn't take in any water. I am just not a big fan of swamping quad's in real deep mud although we have all done it from time to time.
I bet since the 07's are out you can find a brand new 06 for real cheap.

shouldn't be any problems with the grizz, vapor lock is an issue on some, the fact that it has snorkels on it kinda gives you an idea of where its been, alot of water and mud. 589's are nice, on a 14 or 12 inch rim, have had some guys have axel problems and tranny problems using these heavier tires, but most people are fine. i would maybe see if you can get someone to go through the motor and tranny see if they find anything, but for 5300? i would say thats a little steep, i'm sure you could find a good deal on an 06 new for about the same price plus taxes, here in canada you can get a better deal on an 07 700FI than you can on a 06 660 or at least in western canada, cuz nobody has any, everyones got lots of 700fi, but no 660's i'm sure the states is alot different though, i'd try for a new 660 or at least aim for maybe 4500$ on the 05
