ive got a 02 polaris sprtsmn 500, rse, ho. it gets stuck in low gear all the time and u have to mess with the shift rods to get it out. any help on that, and it just got stuck in reverse????????????? i broke the shift rod trying to get it out. did i get a lemon or is my trany just mucked up alittle how to fix it would be cool with out dealer price.

 

maybe shifting forks are bent???

Now about your problem ....

Has it always done this or did it just start?

Does it creep when in gear at idle?

Is the idle speed correct?

How many miles on machine and clutch?

I f all these items are in good shape, then remove the shifter rods and see if you can shift it using the levers at the transmission ( do this in a safe manner or on a jack)

If the machine shifts without excessive force then your shifter forks probably are not bent.
Now you should make sure the shift handle moves easily and repack with grease if necessary.

Now shift the transmission levers to the neutral position and the shifter to the neutral position and adjust the shift rods so they fit into the holes perfectly.

Inspect all these items and report back and someone will help you,
There is a lot of riding and wrenching experience here

it does not creep, about half the time it wont get stuck. when it first started i would ride it real hard and it seemed to work. the bent shift fork sounds like it could be a possibility. do i need to pull the whole trany out to look at this. ive done alot of trany work on cars is it any different. it is an auto. it is stuck in reverse right now and i pulled all the rods off and it would not move any.
