Default Recon sputtering, need help!

Hey guys.

I've been away for quite a while, which means that my Recon has been sitting for about a year.

Today I went to try and start it. It took a couple of tries, but it did fire up. It needed a bit of help idling, but that's not too unnormal.

However, when I try to ride it, it sputters and cuts out no matter what. Sometimes it will be okay at mid throttle. However, it will cut out when you put it into gear unless you rev it up right before you shift, and it also tries to die when you try to start going. Like I said, it will barely move at all.

One thing I noticed is that it seems to be running way rich. The tip of the exhaust pipe is very black and sooty, and you can smell the unburnt fuel if you get close enough. This is strange because I had it tuned perfectly and running the best it ever has when I left it.

Anyone have any ideas on what is wrong and how I can fix it?

You drained the fuel from the carb before you let it sit for a year, right? If not, you will need to take the carb apart and clean it out. It sounds like you have a jet or vent hole plugged. And as the man said above, drain the tank and use fresh gas.

Hey guys

Yes, I drained the bowl before leaving. It was sitting completely dry. When I started it, I put new, fresh gas in the tank and changed the oil beforehand. However, I think that it must be some gunk in the carb, maybe from the tank or something. I'll pull it and clean it up and see how that works

Thanks guys.
