Hey Guys I'm new here but I bought a Yamaha moto4 at a auction. I bought it as a non running parts bike. Anyway I got it running it smokes really bad when you first crank it. I am trying to figure out what it is. I can't find any information other than yamaha moto4.

Here's a photo of it. If you can tell me what it is or where I need to look, I would sure appreciate it.

What color is the smoke? Black, white, or blue?

 

it's blue smoke. I found out this is a 350. Where can I tell what year it is?

 

I found some pieces of the old manual in the rear box. I can make out YFM350ERD so if this is right it's a 1992 model.
The smoking will clear up if you ride it for awhile but when you get on it hard it still smokes. Does this sound like it needs rings? It's a oil cooled motor.

 

Sounds like it needs valve guide seals to me. And if it needs them it's more than likely going to need guides and maybe valves. And if your that far in it you might as well put rings in it.

 

Is this what they call a top end rebuild? I have never been in a atv motor. I have rebuilt some small engines and a few small block chevys. What manual would you recommend?
