Default E-Ton 90 won't start, Bad Choke??

My son has a 2000 eton 90 which runs great but it will not start when it is cold at all. the only way it will start is to give it a shot of starter fluid and even this may take 3- 10 tries, it fires with every shot of fluid but it will not stay running. But once you get it running it runs perfect and will restart all day long easily.
This has the electric choke which I assume is bad, what is the best fix for this unit, can this be converted to manual choke or should I just replace the whole carb? and with what?

thanks

I had that exact problem with my mini and I am not a fan of electric chokes for that reason. Very frustrating. I had my theories but never solved the problem until I got my 20mm Keihin. The world is a much better place.

You need one that's been machined or you'll have to get an intake boot. You'd also need a new throttle cable, air filter and a handfull of jets. You'd also be looking at premix. I found it easy enough to jet but I don't know your background. A good builder could probably get you pretty close before he even ships it.

All I know is mine starts right up, even after sitting for weeks. And smokes a lot less. And doesn't foul plugs. Best mod I've made.

has anyone tried the manual choke conversion kit for the eton carb?
Does it work or is a Carb replacment the only way to go?

Had to replace the carb on my Grandsons 90. The float kept sticking on it.

the manual choke will fix the problem
50 or 60 buck and 30min and you will be back to running
i think eton went back to the manual choke on the newer models
