What is the value of my 2003 Honda 400EX?

I'm in Fresno, CA...
My wife says that I can sell my quad and get a new one... <wow, lucky me!>
However, I don't know what it's worth... How do you figure out at what price to sell it - without just giving it away? I see them in the classifieds in our local paper, yet the prices are all over the place & seldom similar...
My quad has a Full Stainless Yoshimora Exhaust (with extra jets), Nerf Bars and Holeshot Tires. It is well maintained...
Any advice appreciated... thanks!

The only advice I have is to keep your nice 400, or sell it to me for less than 3000 dollars. Too bad the entire world lives in california and I live in missouri. Ok seriously. If it's perfect, shoot for 3800 to 4200. If not, hit up the 300-3500 range. I wouldn't sell that bike in average cond. for less than 3000 even. ...Or you could just give it away to me and I'd pay shipping or drive to califffff.... nevermind.

Go to Kelley Blue Book motorcycle pricing and check the trade-in and retail price in your area. Private party value is usually between the two prices.

In the end it does not matter what the books say, its what you can get someone to buy it for. I was watching E-bay with a geographic restiction of 200 miles from Detroit.
If it is in good condition it would go for between 3,000 and 3,200. Keep in mind I saw 10-15 mchines go for this over the course of 2 months. I was amazed how consistent it was. The only ones that went a little more were being sold by dealers that could offer financing. I suspect these were repos.
I purchased a 2003 300EX in good condition for 2,200.

Another quick thought,
For many buyers the after market add ons to not really add much value. But if you find the right buyer, which you may have to wait a little longer for, you might get a little more.

I would just put a sign on it infro of your house and def chain it up have heard of a few bikes being stolen in my area due to that and just start high with the price and you can always work your way down since they are going to want to get a deal no matter wat I would start somewhere around prob 4k and work with the price from there.

WOW! I really appreciate all the responses from this thread...
I didn't realize that KBB had information for quads on it... I actually found nada.com from a friend just recently, when discussing his trailer value...
Anyway, I was okay with the value determined by KBB, however, feel comfortable being a bit higher due to the yoshimura exhaust...
As much as I want to sell it NOW, I'll likely wait a bit, as I think that the wife is deserving of a new car in the very, very near future... she's been happily driving the same car for the past 8 years, while accomodating our small kids... ha!
However, we always remember - at the right price, it is for sale at that time....
