Default Giovanni, tips wanted.

Hi all,
Had a Gio for about 8 months now, runs good still, just had to adjust the valves a couple of times. We were out in the pits today and the daughter is having problems getting over hills and stuff. We are looking for more low end power, as these things go way to fast anyways when rung out. Has anyone come across stiffer clutch springs to increase the engagement speed?
How about dropping a tooth or two on the countershaft sprocket? Had anyone tried this, if so what were the results, and what year xr50 fits?
Any other tips would be appreciated, would like another year or so out of it before going to a bigger model.

Thanks all.

Default Giovanni, tips wanted.

You can use a Honda Z50 countershaft sprocket on it. I put on a 13 tooth and that helped out. I also made home made wheel spacers to widen the front and rear track about 3 inches total. I got that idea from a search I did hear on this site.

If you can find on eBay a deal you can do what I did. I ordered a big bore kit and put that on. Basically it is a kit to make the engine go from a 50cc to an 88cc. There is a craze with the Honda minis and so availability and tech info is everywhere. You get a cylinder, piston and gaskets in the kit. It there are lots of sites on how to do it. I got mine used for $60CDN to the door. New they are about $99US. Makes the engine go from 2.5hp to about 4hp-4.5hp

I did it because I had problems with it stock starting out and making it over small bumps. It didn't have the torque to get going even on inclines. Now the quad can do donuts with me on it (185lbs) in sand and gravel. My 6yr old can make it fly now and with the 13 tooth on there the top speed in controlled.

You should also check ht espoark plug to see if it is running rich or lean. Getting it jetted right will help a bit. I haven’t taken a look at the clutch but perhaps a higher stall speed could be achieved too.
