Default 300ex or 400ex

I am looking for another ATV, and my problem is I dont want to spend a lot of money thats why I have to say pass on the 450r. Now im down to a 300ex or 400ex my friend has a Kfx 400 but i want something to kinda hand with him. What is the difference in the two atv. I know the motor but, what would be the best choice. Thanks for the help

Ah, two of my favorite machines! These are the all time greatest trail quads. Both are dead solid machines, that will run for years without any problems.

The 300's big advantage is that it is medium size. It is more agile and fits between the trees more easily. It has better suspension than the 250EX (which is about the same size), but not as good as the 400. It isn't any powerhouse, but the motor will hop up with a few simple mods. A little on the heavy side for its displacement, and the stock tires are lame.

The 400 is larger and better suspended. More power of course, and hops up well with a few mods.

I would say that if you are on the small side, and do mostly trail riding, then you will be happy on the 300. If you are larger and the 300 is a little cramped, then absolutely get the 400.

Another factor is where you will be riding. If it is mostly very tight trails, the little 300 might have an advantage over your buddies Z. But, if you ride more open country, you will need the 400 to keep up.

Now that my kids are older and can handle a clutch, I wish I still had my old 300!

I still have my 300ex, I kinda got to tall for it thats why I had to upgrade but I still love to ride it and when we go riding we sometimes go with a guy that has a Z400 and he can't touch me in the trails totally different when we are in the open but I love my 300EX, if you get one the 1st thing you should do is get better tires for it though the stock ones are really bad

I say 400ex, you can ride it for a while and won't get tired of it than when it blows up get the 440 kit for it, than you'll practicly have a 450r except for the suspension.

If you like to do wheelies get a 300ex, they do awsome wheelies and are easy to wheelie with.

i had the same problem not to long ago on choseing a 300ex or 400ex. I ended up getting the 400ex because i felt that i if anything would grow and become a better rider on a slightly bigger machine. My best bud just bought a 300ex and he now after 2 years and a few mods wished he would have gone a bit bigger. Both machines are great for trail ridding and jumping if your into that.
About doin wheelies.. i can ride alot longer and higher wheelie on the 400ex than on the 300ex but that may be bieased cause i ride the 400ex a little bit more.

Air cooled may be old school, but they come to temp quick and its less parts to worry about tearing up, and as long as your moving at a decent pace you aint got nothing to worry about, and sides that you aint got to be bother with hearing it buzzin away whileyou have a conversation with your riding partner. That bugs me to hear those things runnin on my buddies atv.

And it works just the same. Not to mention the EX's will last longer than any other sport quad out there.

ReconRanger's advice is spot on.

When it comes to sport quads the real fun starts at 400ccs. Anything smaller is just a toy and you'll be wishing for a bigger quad in no time. You can't really compare the 300 to the 400 (yeah, theres that much difference). Any quad is good to have but if you can get a 400EX over a 300EX then by all means get it! I loved my 400EX and outside of drag racing (450s on up) I was more than happy with it. Not to mention its the toughest quad I've ever had and if you do break it, parts are fairly cheap (you will never say that about a Z400 or anything else for that matter.....).

The 400EX would be a very good choice.
