Dont I need to flush out the oil? I read somewhere about doing this whe nswitching from natural to synthetic. SOmething about draining the oil. the refilling with cheap oil, idling for 20 minutes. then draining that. Then adding new filter and synthetic.
also what about mobil 1 mxt4 or amsoil?

Just change it. That's what I did on my Rancher when I switched to synthetic.
Think about it....if you drain the dino oil out and flush it with a cheap oil as you state, what good are you doing? You still have cheap oil in the machine using that logic.
Switch it and ride on. My Rancher runs smoother and cooler with the synthetic.

I actually had a shop mechanic WARN me not to add any mineral based oil to synthetic if I'm out on the trail as it will cause the oil to "gum up" and will cause my engine to seize.......this is a MECHANIC at a dealership.....had a dealership owner tell me synthetic was too slippery to use in my Outlander.

There are lots of myths that persist about synthetics, being too slippery is another. It isnt more slippery, its just that the molicule size is controlled with synthetics, where natural oil is random.
If you do a google search on myths and synthetic oils..youll find lots of information, all saying just about the same thing,
heres two of them

I dont know why anyone would put mineral oil in the crank case. Its not the same thing as petrolium oil.

Sorry my bad dino. oil....he said to never mix synthetic with standard ATV oil.

Raidermike,
I am a certified machanic for Toyota and also used to work with pennzoil a few years back for almost 8yrs. Mixing synthetic and regular oil does not hurt anything. It will not gum up either. The thing that gums up oil is parafins/wax and lack of heat or boil over.. Most oils have a low or no parafin base to them now days. It is a myth about mixing synthetic and regular oils being bad. Even the semi synthetic oils are regular based with some synthetic.
It is not recommended to use a synthetic oil durring break in because it does not give the rings a chance to seat right. Yes SOME cars come from the factory with synthetic but they are also run at the factory.
Synthetic is superior to use over regular oil. Yes it is more slippery and that is good. If you look at the molicules of regular oils are jagged and more wide spread while the molicules of synthetic is more round, smooth and closer together which means it will be more slippery. This means less friction, less heat and more hp.
