I dont think you need sealant.. The copper gasket should be fine.. There not too much pressure up there anyways. It will just fill itself with oil and you should be good to go. I would be afraid of sealant getting on or around your tensioner and it could lock it up. I have had them stick open and shut. I have a back up tensioner and manual tensioner.

Great, I appriciate it all. I think I will give it some oil to prime it first just too be safe. I bought 2 as to make sure we don't lose a morning of riding again for something that small.....Mine stuck shut on our Monday morning ride a couple weeks ago when we went to Oregon.....Bummer that was....

Default Cam Chain Tensioner

My cam tensioner stuck down recently on the second day of a three day trip 7 hrs from home. I took a small flat blade screwdriver and gently pryed off the cap (it's just crimped on around the top) and the whole thing came apart. I left off the cap and put the barrel, spring, and plunger back in and it worked fine for the rest of the weekend. It's a little tricky getting the bolt screwed back in with nothing to hold the tensioner together, but it can be done.

Just a little trick in case of emergency...
