Kazuma Meerkat 50 review
#1
I purchased a red and a blue kazuma 50, from Raceway ATV, for my son (3 yrs) and daughter (5 yrs).
Order process -
THe order process was quick and painless. I just used the Raceway ATV website and ordered the colors that I wanted.
Shipping -
Shipping was quick. It took about a week to get the bikes. The bikes came in welded cages with the tires and handle bar stowed for shipping. The packaging was pretty durable and my neighbor took the angle iron for use in some of his welding projects.
Bike -
The bike came pre-assembled and I really only needed to attach the front tires, reset the handle bar, fill the batteries, and install the batteries.
Instead of just assembling the rest, I took everything apart and used loctite on all of the bolts. I removed all of the electrical connectors and applied silicon di-electric grease. I also used RTV black to seal the switches and ignition. I read this in another review and thought it a good idea.
After getting everything re-assembled I fired up both bikes. One bike came with a decent tune but the other one needed minor adjustments on the idle and mix. After tuning them, I figured that I was ready to let my kids get familiar with them. The bikes start up no problems, the electronic ignition is a snap and both of my kids can start them up without problems.
Kid Control -
I pushed my kids around to get them familiar with the brakes, throttle, turning, and weight distribution in turns. Both my kids ride bikes without training wheels and understand the concepts of steering, speed, and braking. I thought that control on a bike should be mandatory before I even considered a powered bike.
Once they understood where all of the controls were located they were ready to ride the bike arounds. There is no way that my kids can shift gears in this bike so I left it in first and adjusted the throttle limiter to keep them at slower speeds. I walked with them at first and made them do some traffic cone training and break re-assurance training. Once they got used to moving under the bikes power and had some control, I let them go at it on our 2 acre lawn, flat with small bumps for fun. They rode the bikes in first gear for a couple days and said they were ready to go faster. All I did was just shift the bike into second gear and now I think that this is as fast as they should go for a while.
Summary
The kids absolutely love their bikes. I think that this bike is a good bang for the buck. While the bike doesn't have a front suspension, I don't think that this is a pro/con since my kids will not be jumping and taking rough terrain on a bike that I bought them just for learning. When they get older and if they still want to ride they will move to a bike that has the specifications that they need.
Pros -
Low price
Quick setup
Easy tuning
Easy maintenance
Cons -
Shifting is too stiff (my little kids don't have the strength and weight to move between gears)
Wants -
Reverse (while not a necessity, it would be helpful)
Automatic

Nice review. The meerkat is a pretty tough little quad. You did everything right to have a reliable chinese quad. Most dont do half the work you do and we get posts like this thing is a POS! My son was in second gear for a while and he is 4. @nd is plenty fast for a while. He outgrew his 50 and is now on a 90. Good luck and have fun.

Update -
I guess something loosened up. The kids can upshift through all of the gears but they still cannot downshift. My kids shift through all of the gears but max out their throttle at the top of 2nd. These things are pretty quick, for a little kid, in 2nd gear.
It is pretty good that they can keep upshifting back to neutral. My little ones sometimes get stuck on steeper hills then keep upshifting until they find first again. Once they are back in first the quad handles the incline without any problems.
They learned the concept of letting go of the throttle when they upshift. They are still working on the shifting while in motion concept. My 3 year old is learning the handling better than my 5 year old, but they are both still pretty quick on the learning curve. I honestly thought I would still have them in first gear manuevering around cones at this time.
