Default Hello to all, a couple of DS650 Q's

Well after snooping around here for months, I took the time to join and gain the ability to post and reply.

First, I would like to thank all of you for your posts, opinions, and experiences. As a result, I have recently purchased a 2007 DS 650 to add to my collection. Although I have only spent 2 full days riding it here in the beautiful State of Oregon, I am in love and I would not have chose this machine if it wasn't for this forum. It truely is a comfortable ride and well suited for a larger rider (6'00"/ 255 lbs).

Second, I have a couple of questions I have been unable to locate the answers for:

1. Once I completed the DS650 break-in period and was comfortable running it through the complete RPM range, I noticed an overwhelming metal sounding rattle on the bike. I would assume this would be from the extensive guards (skid plates, radiator shield etc.) but have been unable to locate the source. Anyone have any ideas of where this comes from and easy solutions?

2. With all the end-cap exhaust mods available, I was wondering what you all use, enjoy, or dont care for. I would like to retain the USFS spark arrestor as I enjoy riding other areas than just the dunes. Anyone have a review of the ODP Power Tip using the Supertrapp type disks?

Thanks. . .

Default Hello to all, a couple of DS650 Q's

The Rotax 650 does seem to be a little bit noisier that most ATV motors that I'm familiar with. Having said that, I experienced the same metallic sound on my first few rides on my DS when new. Found out the chain needed adjusting to my weight. Once that was taken care of the metallic noise disappeared.
I'm off to work so I'll let others chime in with the end cap issues.

Good luck and welcome to the forum.

Welcome to the forum Gadget and congrats on your new purchase.

My exhaust sheild makes a tinny rattle on the bike. When I put my foot or hand on it the sound goes away. You may wanna check that and what Aceisback said about the chain adjustment.

If those arn't the cause, I'm sure these guys will point you in the right direction.

Also check the skid plates, the one that protects the frame on mine was vibrating alot, loosened it up and put some thin rubber strips between the frame and skid plate then tightened it back up and the vibration went away.

The disced end cap is a very good alternative to a slip on or full exhaust system and it performs as good or better than most of them. You could gain a lot of performance from just a CDI and the disced end cap with proper jetting for very little money.I use the ODP disced end cap on my built stock bore DS and it runs with all but the very fastest and lightest quads out there.Your excessive metal sounding rattle may be from the very large 530 chain that the DS comes with stock,it makes quite a bit of noise. On the subject of chains the 520 chain conversion and sprockets is a good performance mod that is fairly cheap.I am currently without a clutch in my DS but when i get a new one in i could show you just how the disced end cap works at the dunes.Welcome to the forums.
