Does anyone have the SuperTrapp EAR(Environmental Acoustics Reduction) series pipe on their bike? I have an 85 Honda 350X with a DG RCM and it is too loud. I have a disc set for it but it didn't make that much difference in the noise level. Just wondering if anyone has one or has heard one on a bike.

You didn't say whether you had the disc kit installed. If so, and depending on the total number of discs now in the silencer, that could be the reason for increased decibels. The more discs, the louder it is, and the less restriction in the exhaust flow. The reverse is also true; a quiet pipe is created by reducing the air flow and thereby lessening the hi-end performance. For example, I run 20 discs in my 4" Supertrapp for top end but it is considerably louder than with the stock number of discs. You might contact DG to find out what they recommend as the minimum number of discs to run in their pipe.

I had a supertrapp race series on my honda XR250 for a short time after i bought it. it was too loud, so i put in the EAR core. it significantly reduced the sound pressure level and i did not loose very much performance at all.
its worth the investment.

i think white brothers also has a quiet series that has a similar core design.

Thanks. I contacted DG right after I purchased their exhaust and asked them about a spark arrester. What I got was an end cap and 10 discs. The funny thing was there was no way to attach it to the exhaust. I finally made a piece to bolt the discs to the exhaust. I tried different numbers of dics but never could tell any difference.

Thanks for the info!

due to the length of my disc bolts, I can only run a minimum of 6 supertrapp discs on my DG RCM exhaust or they flop around loose....it's just as loud to my ears whether I run 6 discs or 11 discs....and it is pretty loud. Like you though, I haven't heard any of the "quieter" exhausts to compare.
