Return from first service
#1
Just got my 800 back from it's first service. Service tech told me the valves were fairly loose(seemed to be making a lot of noise) they were adjusted. They replaced the engine and transmission with synthetic fluids and suggested I do the front and rear differential around 100 hours with synthetic.
They lock washered down the battery terminals and put on an extra strap! STRONGLY recommended to anyone.
He said the EFI was not reading properly because of oil from the filter dripping on to the sensor, cleaned and it's working properly now. Probably why I was smelling gas from time to time. He suggested not oiling the air filter.
Replaced the front lid from an 04 model, no more zip ties to hold it down, looks stock now.
Added hand guards, this is actually a pretty nice additon and helps protect your instruments on the handlebars.
I'm adding two halogen lights, they're larger then a golf ball but a little smaller then a baseball, bout the size of a handball/raquetball. I wired them directly to the 12v outlet inside the front instrument cover and will put the switch on the plastic hand guards. Probably going to put the lights on the front black plastic piece which holds the instrument panel, right below the "Outlander" decal.
All I have to do now is the put those skid plates back on for hopefully a final time and secure those lights. I picked up a pair of halogen lights from Walmart for 20 bucks, took all of ten minutes to hook them up. Just unplug the terminals from the 12V outlet, I slid the positive and negative wires for the lights into the terminals on the quad and just plugged them back in, three wires to the switch and two to each light.

Mike-
I went for my first long ride today put like 200 hard miles on my machine, I could only get 70 mph out of it. It would go to 70 rev down to 69 then back up. Is there really a rev limiter on it? I have a little over 8 hours on it right now.

8 hours and 200 miles? Damn, I need to find other people to ride with . I'm at 152 miles and 13 hours. Actually a LOT of our riding is in the Mendocino mountains and the one access trail is like two miles up/down, doesn't take long to make it up but it's a long slow ride back down. Took a couple of lady friends riding last Sunday and I rode my DS, could barely get it out of 2nd gear without losing them <ughh>, they have to learn and if you leave them in the dust they don't like that so it's all good, low impact miles/hours for sure, it's all good though by the end of the day one of them was getting a little bold.

Yes, I am running stock tires. My machine definately has more more power there, and I don't think it is in the gearing. It is just like it is cutting out, right at 70. Kind of angers me that a KQ with 2 people on it were doing 74. It would be fun to do some mountain riding. I have to settle for the winding snowmobile trails of WI.

Interesting, well I'm pretty sure I was 70+ and nothing kicked in.....wondrer if your speedo might be off? I'd have it looked at during your first service.

You may want to add a few stickers......maybe then you will get the top speed you are looking for

I just bought 2 outlander xt 800s. 1 is a 2006 & 1 is a 2007 both run side buy side all the way to top speed (75 on the speedo) even though I out way my son buy 50lbs. I do this buy bending down so I can just see over the speedo pod. Doing this makes me not catch any extra wind (aero dinamics). If I sit up I lose 4mph.
