500 XT MAX vs. 500 XT
#1
Hi everyone. i am buying an atv for the first time with in a couple weeks. i have been looking at all the different ATV's on the market and i think i have narrowed it down to the Outlander 500 XT or the 500 XT MAX. (Can-Am Rules). For those out there that have a MAX model could you answer this question. When riding alone and having the passenger seat removed, is there a big difference in how the ATV handles opposed to having a passenger on with you. I like the option of being able to have a passenger and doing it safely but if there is a great sacrafice in performance by going with the MAX model instead of the standard while riding alone i would rather not. Thanks for any help in this decision.

I just bought the 500 xt and have 50 miles on her. I have had quads for 20 years and the outlander is by far the best ride and the power is good. Engine sounds great like a harley idling. Anyways if you plan to ride 1 most of the time go for the 500xt - more nimble shorter on the trails and trees easer to haul. top end is 60 mpr. good luck!

I've put on 3,100 km on my Max Xt with and without a rider and there is NO difference in the way it handles, you would have no idea you were on a two up. The only difference is that it does ride slightly better with two people on it because the springs and shocks are a little stiffer to carry two people.
When you want to ride alone it only takes one second to remove the seat and put in the little tool box, after that most people don't even know it's a Max. Yes it's a little longer so in the tightest of trails it can be a bit of a problem, but unless you live in the bush it's no big deal.
As far as being capable off road it's as good as anything out there -- I'll go anywhere others do, and thats with two people on board. Lots of ground clearance and the viso-lok is awsome the mud and snow.

Hey there,
My wife and I just bought a 650 Outlander Max XT (in camo) 2 weeks ago. It is our first ATV. WE LOVE IT !!!!! Although we have only ridden 3 times so far because of rain, it is VERY comfortable in every sense. We both have back problems and no pain after riding for 4 hours straight in the woods on logging roads. More comfortable than my 2001 Chevy Silverado 2500 p/u. Have not ridden solo yet. Hope this helps in small way.
