03 lt50 fuel leak
#1
my daughter has an 03 lt50. lately ive started to smell fuel in the garage so i looked and its coming from the vent hose on the carb that is attached to the bowl on the carb. i bought this quad used and didnt get an owners manual. on the plastic by the petcock there are 3 marked posistions. 6 oclock says on, 9 oclock says pri and 3 oclcock pri. the quad will run in anyone of these positions. what does the pri stand for? there are 2 hoses that run off the petcock, one goes to the carb and when i unplug it at the carb fuel runs out of the hose in any of the 3 petcock positions. the other plugs into cylinder right were the intake attaches. im guessing that since the the fuel runs out of the hose that attaches to the carb all the time there may be a problem with the petcock? or maybe the float in the carb is stuck?

We have the 2002 version of this great little quad. When we bought it used it was doing exactly the same thing. Loosening and retightening the drain screw on the carb fixed it. Since then we haven't had a single drop of fuel leaking out.
As for the petcock, that is the most mysterious thing on this quad. "ON" is the normal position; according to the service manual, it permits fuel to flow to the carb when the engine is running. "PRI" stands for "PRIme" and the manual says it permits free-flow of fuel to the carb whether the engine is running or not. I think what happened in our case was that we played with the petcock when we first got the unit and flooded the carb, so it drained out the hose. Since reseating the drain screw and NOT playing with the petcock we haven't had any leakage at all.
As to why there are two PRI settings - ah, that's the mystery! Why no OFF setting? Why two (yes two!) PRI settings when you basically never need even one? Who knows. Neither the owner's nor the service manual gives a hint. We leave ours in the ON position and never touch it.
