Default 03 Raptor 660 oil re-filling

I see in the manual it says a full oil change (including filter) needs to be re-filled with just over 2 quarts. It never seems to want to take the whole 2 quarts before starting to overflow. Is the objective to put most in, then run it and then put the remainder in and check the level? Sorry if it seems like a basic question. Thank you

No worries. But yes, you do have to start it after you fill the oil tank. But only run the quad for a few seconds to let the dry-sump action pull oil from the oil tank into the crank case. Then check the dipstick, and fill it to the full mark. Run it again for about 15-20 seconds and double check it. If it is still low, let it sit for a few minutes and run it again and re-check the level. If it is still low, fill it to the full mark, run it and check it again. You should be golden by this point.

When you don't change the filter, there is a small amount of oil the filter retains. When you change the filter, you have to add more new oil to compensate.

IF you want to be ****, then buy a ratio rite and measure out the exact millileter levels your manual calls for.

DO NOT RUN THE BIKE WITH THE OIL DRAINED!!!! Some people in the forums have talked about how they pull their spark plug and crank over the engine to try and get out "all the oil." This is impossible, as the oil lines and internal parts are coated with oil that will not completely drain during an oil change. If you do crank the motor over without any oil, there is nothing to combat friction and things will want to grind and chew up each other. Bad scenario.

What kind of oil are you using? I have found, after trying several brands and weights, that Yamalube 20w40 works best in my 02 Raptor.
